Hello everyone, this is my very first post on this website which I have just created. I have, for many years, always been interested or involved in all things health and beauty. I have no professional training or education relating to health and wish to make it clear that all feelings and beliefs are simply my own.
I have sold a number of products through the years from different Multi-Level Marketing companies and have used a variation of products myself, and I have always been wary of cheaper products. The products I have sold included skincare, make-up, toiletries, home cleaning products, and supplements. I also have purchased some ‘supermarket’ products, so believe that I can compare products and have a reasonable layman’s knowledge of both.
I personally believe that products should have minimum ‘nasties’ and be as natural as possible, whilst still actually be doing the job they are supposed to. It is my personal belief that many of today’s health issues are related to the chemicals in our everyday life.
What about water and vinegar.
I have tried the water and vinegar approach to house cleaning and even hair-care but found that to be pretty useless. This is my personal opinion, as I have found that these type of too-simple products often just mean more elbow grease is required. I can’t live like that, I want to spend the minimum time on cleaning that I can.
These products may work if you are prepared to be a compulsive cleaner and never let a spot go unattended for a microsecond. I like my home to shine, rather than just be a dull clean. I want to have time to spend on my personal grooming and living, blogging and running an online business – not just on housekeeping. Therefore I want to use products with the fewest chemicals I can find.
I believe that there is a fine line between doing what is good for you, and what is practical.
Chemicals, yes or no?
I do try to keep chemicals out of my life where-ever possible in both the food I eat and the products I put on my skin. However, I do try and keep a balance between products that work, and products that have the least chemicals.
This blog will be about keeping a clean healthy home, looking and feeling great, as well as all things health and beauty.
I know everyone has a different opinion on what food tastes good and what doesn’t irrespective of the health benefits or not of products. I also acknowledge that the jury is divided on whether fats are good or bad, and likewise artificial sugars and grains. The only agreement seems to be that sugars are the baddie.
I personally have recently chosen a no sugar or flour approach to weight loss and it seems to be working although early days. I need to lose about 25 kg (55lb). I really hate exercise, so it is a slow process for me.
Skincare and makeup.
In the past, I have used what I consider to be quality skin-care and makeup products. These have not been ‘designer’ labels but rather companies with an approach to healthy and more natural products.
As a teenager, I had terrible skin. It was very oily and actually ‘shone’. I was always trying different products trying to overcome the issue. Fortunately, it got a little better once I left my teens behind but I never forgot and for this reason, always took care with skincare. In my later years, blackheads have become the dominant feature.
In my late 20’s I had a melanoma which gave me a scare at the time and started my interest in organic gardening and simple foods. I did fall off the wagon regularly and got into the coke and cake with my vegetables.
I have not been actively following all my beliefs all of the time over the years as business, children, and life, in general, got in the way. I have fallen off the wagon here too on occasion as time and convenience became more of an issue.
I have also not been so fussy with regard to my makeup and personal care products lately. I have even been guilty of washing with soap and using some chemist skin-care products. When I sold my house and became nomadic, it has been harder to get the multi-level marketing products that I have used. Added to the fact that I have got lazy and simply headed to the supermarket, I now only have a little makeup from the better quality range.
I have recently had another skin cancer scare, (fortunately not a melanoma )and luckily it was caught early.
This has renewed my quest to try and improve my general health. Hence I have started my weight loss program and am trying to eat simple foods. No more pizza’s or sandwiches and no sauces and gravies.
Where to now?
I am reconsidering all my personal care as well as skin care and makeup products and I intend to make this blog all about my actions and finding based on today’s products.
I am also going back to more natural cleaning products as I live in a small space (8m x 2.5m)(26′ x 8′).
I hope you will join me on my journey. Please leave a comment if you would like a particular health and beauty related topic to be discussed.
